Imagine this: You’ve just received notice that you’re being audited for sales tax compliance in just three days. You frantically call your bookkeeper and ask her to start organizing the past 12 months of sales. Sales tax provides critical revenue for states. Other than property and income tax, sales tax is the largest source of tax revenue in the majority of the 46 states that collect it.
